INVASION OF THE BODY SNATCHERS (1978) C widescreen 115m dir: Philip Kaufman

w/Donald Sutherland, Brooke Adams, Leonard Nimoy, Veronica Cartwright, Art Hindle, Lelia Goldoni, Kevin McCarthy, Jeff Goldblum, Don Siegel

Well-made remake of the 1956 sci-fi classic. Sutherland is a San Francisco health inspector who discovers that many friends around him are beginning to act very strangely (having been turned into "pod people"). The movie is a paranoid's dream come true with plenty of creeps and chills. Look for Kevin McCarthy and Don Siegel, the star and director of the earlier version of the film, in cameo roles as the running man and a cab driver, respectively.

From Variety's review of the film: "Invasion of the Body Snatchers validates the entire concept of remakes. This new version of Don Siegel's 1956 cult classic not only matches the original in horrific tone and effect, but exceeds it in both conception and execution. ...

"Sutherland has his best role since Klute. He gets excellent support from Adams, who projects a touching vulnerability.

"Film buffs will have a delight in spotting Kevin McCarthy, who starred in the original version, picking up exactly where he left off at the first pic's finale."
